60 Nestled in the serene hamlet of Pattemouche, just minutes from the renowned Italian ski resort of Sestriere, lies Baita 1697—a meticulously restored 17th-century Piedmontese farmhouse that offers an unparalleled family ski holiday experience. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that this chalet was designed with families in mind, seamlessly blending historic charm with modern luxury. A Warm Welcome and Impeccable Service Upon entering Baita 1697, we were greeted by the warm smiles of Bianca and Pietro, the chalet’s dedicated hosts. Their genuine hospitality ensured that every aspect of our stay was flawless. From organizing daily ski passes to arranging personalized activities for our teenage daughters, they anticipated our needs with remarkable precision. Their attention to detail made us feel not just like guests, but like cherished friends. Culinary Delights: A Feast for the Senses One of the standout features of our stay was the exceptional culinary experience. The chalet operates on a fully catered basis, with meals freshly prepared on-site using local organic ingredients whenever possible. Each meal was a celebration of Italian cuisine, from hearty breakfasts that fueled our days on the slopes to sumptuous dinners that showcased regional specialties. Our family particularly enjoyed the aperitifs by the cracking fireplace, the homemade pastas and decadent desserts, all complemented by a curated selection of fine wines. Luxurious Amenities for Ultimate Relaxation After exhilarating days skiing the vast Via Lattea (Milky Way) slopes (it helped that we experienced sunny days and blue skies), returning to Baita 1697 was a delight. We returned by gondola, which is located right behind the chalet, or you can ski straight down. The chalet boasts an outdoor wooden hot tub on the roof terrace, crafted from local larch wood, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Soaking in the warm waters under a canopy of stars, with the crackling outdoor fireplace beside us, became a cherished evening ritual. The heated ski room with underfloor heating and boot warmers ensured our gear was always ready for the next day’s adventures. Cozy Interiors and Restful Nights The interior of Baita 1697 exudes warmth and comfort. The living areas feature vaulted stone ceilings – once a hay barn – plush furnishings, and ambient lighting that create an inviting atmosphere. Evenings were spent lounging by the grand fireplace, enjoying pre-dinner aperitifs, playing board games and recounting the day’s highlights. The bedrooms, each uniquely designed, provided serene sanctuaries for restful sleep. Our daughters loved the cozy children’s dormitory, while we appreciated the privacy of our en-suite room with its own balcony. Fine Italian bedroom and bathroom linen, including comfortable slippers, are made bespoke for the chalet and embroidered with the property’s logo adding a touch of luxury. In the bathroom you’ll be spoiled with a vanity kit composed by organic products hand-made in Milan by By Hands & Herbs. We particularly enjoyed the lip balm and lion balm after a day out exercising in the cold. A Family Haven in the Italian Alps Baita 1697 is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination in itself. Its blend of historical architecture and modern amenities makes it the perfect retreat for families seeking both adventure and relaxation. The combination of exceptional service, gourmet dining, and luxurious comforts ensured that our family ski holiday was nothing short of perfect. We left with hearts full of memories and a unanimous desire to return to this alpine paradise. Curious to find out more? Click here to read the full property description. Where to Eat The Owners booked for us a dinner table at Ristorante Misun La Font, situated in an idyllic alpine hamlet above Sestriere, 20 min drive from the chalet. Located in tucked away sleepy village reachable throw a narrow mountain road, not instantly easy to find in the dark winter evening, we were instead pleasantly surprised by the obviously very well known and fully booked restaurant.
