Thank you for your amazing service.

I really loved your amazing luxurious atmosphere, your food and staff. I honestly am amazed of how much you could put up with my brother, you're a hero. This villa definitely deserves those awards. Thank you for having me. I will definitely be begging to come back in summer.

Lots of love,

See you in summer.

Sublime perfection in the beautiful Rhodope Mountains

Frankly, we felt so excited securing a booking. It's a wee way off the 'beaten track' but this stunning villa that has a solid reputation is a place usually for a group, not just one couple .... but it appealed too much so I had to ask... and yes they accepted us no question. So if you are reading this review as a couple please contact Gella and see if they have availability for one couple.
Moving on to further detail. The villa is isolated. Silence is guaranteed. The serenity of this place is something we felt privileged to experience. It's rare. It's a gift that the owners Ivan and Dimka have provided through dedication and preciseness (along with a decent dose of taste and elegance) to create a place that simply envelopes one on arrival.
Our room was beautifully considered in every detail (as are all rooms in the villa). A large jacuzzi bath, separate shower, fireplace in the centre of our suite, huge sofas to relax, the bedding was made with full count cotton linens and everything was just .... well ...perfect.
Dimka is a superb cook. I cook a extensively at home and am familiar with variations on Turkish/Greek/Middle Eastern techniques and spices but Dimka's cooking taught me a thing or two. She really has it down to a fine art in a beautifully simple way (not simple out back though, these dishes are complex but she seems to pull everything off with ease and elegance). The food at Gella is a treasure. A gift in fact....and then there's the wine. OMG, the Terra Tangra wines from the owners' vineyard are a journey in itself. We enjoy Bulgarian wine and this is as good as it gets pretty much anywhere in the world (and we've experienced a bit). Needless to say, the wine is a given. Enjoy it while you can whilst there and take whatever home your luggage will allow.
Gella is managed by the incredibly efficient and knowledgable Darina. Darina replied to my numerous emails with patience and knowledge.

I’ve been trying to figure out what our visit to Villa Gella in the village of Gela Bulgaria (population 37) has been all about. I could tell you that it is an amazing place with a wonderful vista, that it has fantastic rooms all with fire places a swimming pool etc etc really beautifully cooked meals of local cuisine and the wine they make themselves (Terra Tangra winery) and serve that is world class but that is easy to find out and see for yourselves, what you can’t see is what makes this place something else, something very special very charming and somewhat magical.
The thing is, it’s not like a B & B or a hotel or whatever you like to call it but it has taken on an entirely different persona solely because of the wonderful people who run it.

They are so generous, welcoming and friendly in a way that you have no right to expect let alone encounter in your travels around the globe. We have been traveling for twenty six years now and have only had this kinship with the people we have stayed with twice.
This differs because they make you feel part of their family. It’s like I’m visiting my very precious grandparents who have spoilt me since childhood such is their charm. (this is weird as they are younger than my parents)
The amazing thing is that this is just is that way it is, not contrived or false or whatever just pure simple honest open welcoming people with huge hearts.

You would think from what I have said that we have had great conversations, bonding sessions or some such but the truth is we don’t even speak the same language, most of our communication is either through Darina interpreting or a simple smile that melts your heart. the occasional google translated email , however, the truth is their loving spirit transcends language .

All I can really tell you is that holiday will live in my heart for the rest of my days. If you are lucky enough to have a chance to stay here I only wish is that it is as good for you as it has been for me.

A stylish and friendly hotel in a stunning landscape

Villa Gella is a stylishly furnished and decorated house set in a quiet rural area of Bulgaria. Natural materials such as wood and stone have been used, and the house is environmentally friendly, with solar panels and re-use of rain water in the garden. It's a very comfortable, peaceful and relaxing place, with indoor swimming pool, boules and badminton. The food is fabulous, with fresh ingredients prepared in creative ways. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly. The surrounding landscape is meadows, woods, hills and mountains, with stunning wild flowers in Spring and Summer, and footpaths and tracks everywhere for exploring. Close to Pamporovo ski resort in the Winter. The hotel can arrange transfers to and from Plovdiv airport.

Magical place in pristine and fascinating environment

A group of us had a wonderful few days in this lovely spacious villa with extended views across the valley. It was full winter so we had open fires, snow, skiing and long walks to a lovely hidden valley which has been a place of sanctuary for centuries. The silence and the stars were particularly striking - a deep deep sense of peace descends on you very quickly. A place out of space and time that will stay with me for very long time.
