Details

Newly built a few years ago, the masseria was crafted by able artisans using "Pietra Leccese", the local stone, by applying traditional techniques, resulting in a unique masterpiece of arches and 4 metres high vaulted ceilings.
The masseria was extended and completely restyled under the supervision of Apulian Architect Raffaele Centonze in July 2020.

On entering the main gate, you are immediately immersed in the property's olive grove. Over two hectares of ancient olive trees telling tales of heritage and culture.

It is composed by a main building and a separate guest unit.

In the main villa building you will find an open-plan fully-fitted modern kitchen equipped with all appliances, utensils and two large fridges. The ancient oak kitchen table can sit up to 10 guests when fully extended.
The dining area features an impressive open fireplace built in "tufo", yet another local stone.
The cozy living area is the perfect place to relax, watch TV or contemplate the tranquil nature surrounding the masseria.
The kitchen and dining area both have access to the internal courtyard as well to the lawn and olive grove.

The kitchen leads to a utility/storage room equipped with washing machine, dryer as well as a guest toilet with a shower.

The sleeping quarters include:
° a master-bedroom with four poster king size bed, closet, cabinet, desk and an en-suite bathroom with shower. TV. Nespresso Coffee machine. Access to private garden.
° a twin/double bedroom with en-suite bathroom (shower). TV. Desk. Access to private garden.
° two twin/double bedrooms, sharing a spacious family bathroom with bathtub and separate rain shower. The two rooms can be interconnecting. One of the two rooms is equipped with TV and DVD player. 1 desk.

A second independent unit, built in stone following the traditional shape of a "pajara" (trullo with flat roof), is located 30 metres from the main building, between the kitchen/living area and the lawn.
The twin/double bedrooms en-suite (shower) and TV makes it an ideal room for teenagers, a nanny or visiting guests.

There is plenty of room for al-fresco dining, relaxation and entertainment. From sun-loungers to sofas, and two shaded dining areas located in either the landscaped gardens or in the main courtyard.

At sunset, head to the roof terrace for an Aperol Spritz aperitif offering spectacular views over as far as eye can see olive groves and white-stone villages. On a very clear day, you may even spot the Adriatic sea and Albania in the distance.

All windows are installed with mosquito nets.
All five bedrooms, living room and main corridor are equipped with air-conditioning.

PLACES TO VISIT

OTRANTO

A short drive from the Masseria, Otranto is a popular destination for Italy’s jet set.
Among the must-see sights are the Duomo, dating back to the 11th century with some internal columns allegedly from a temple dedicated to Minerva which has been restored to its original form and the dramatic five-sided Castello Aragonese, which has cylindrical towers and a moat.

LECCE

This ancient and beautiful city is known as the ‘Florence of the south’ because of the ornate Baroque architecture. Unlike Florence, the buildings are created from the local stone, pietra leccese, which adds to the city’s luminosity and appeal.

Lecce is a lively city, popular with Italians and non-Italians alike. It is usually buzzing with life even late into the night in autumn and winter. There is always something going on, whether it be a market, street theatre or just the evening passeggiata. Apart from the designer shops and great restaurants, there are stunning sights like the half buried Roman amphitheatre near piazza Sant’Oronzo. The Chiesa di Santa Croce with its richly decorated façade and rose window is worth a visit as is the town hall, the Palazzo del Governo next door. Along Corso Vittorio Emanuele 1 the Duomo, with its 210 foot bell tower, is considered one of the most important in the whole of Italy. Go along via Palmieri to see craftsmen working on the local stone. Don’t forget the Orto Botanico di Lecce – the Lecce Botanical Garden, located in via prov. Lecce-Monterone. It covers just over 5 acres and is under the auspices of the University of Lecce.

Rest of Salento:

SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA, CASTRO and the GROTTE ZINZULUSA, GALLIPOLI, SPECCHIA, GALATINA, MAGLIE, POGGIARDO, NARDO.

Rest of Puglia:

ALBEROBELLO, OSTUNI, GROTTAGLIE, MARTINA FRANCA, ALTAMURA.

Also recommended a visit to Matera in Basilicata, half an hour drive from Bari.
