One Rare Holiday Villa in Serene Seychelles

Recently, I had the privilege to explore one of Mahe’s most elegant private villas, nestled in the serene Anse Barbarons. Accessible to just a selected clientele, Passepartout Homes is proud to have been selected as one of its preferred agencies.

Just a scenic 20-minute drive from Mahe’s International Airport, this villa boasts unrivaled exclusivity and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and surrounding islands. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the Property Manager, was offered a fresh towel and a home-made drink by the friendly housekeeper. A much appreciated refreshment on that very hot day.

Pictures do not do justice to the uniqueness of this private estate. Stepping through the imposing main door, I was in awe. Prepare to be enchanted. Adorned with an impressive collection of art, artifacts, and rare treasures from around the world, every corner tells a story of history and tradition. A collection of antique walking sticks and panama hats, family portraits, rare carpets, and exotic statues. You are instantly immersed in history and traditions. Impeccably designed, no detail is overlooked, ensuring each stay is unforgettable.

The entrance hall

With a dedicated team including villa hosts, private chef, and security personnel, your every need is anticipated and catered to. The classic colonial architecture and lush surroundings exude elegance and tranquility, providing the perfect backdrop for relaxation.

Built in a classic colonial style with a wraparound patio, the villa features a large entrance hall adorned by a central indoor flowerbed and 5m high ceilings. The house, which has been owned by the same family for 3 generations, was built using luxurious, locally sourced materials, including an impressive coconut roof . Constantly maintained to very high standards, the home and its surroundings are kept in a pristine state and working order.

Bedrooms are incredibly spacious with open en-suite bathrooms as the traditional colonial style dictates. Each bedroom is uniquely styled, with large beds, fine linen and draping, antique furnishings and large French windows overlooking the lush vegetation.

The elegant formal dining room is adorned with silver ornaments and a crystal chandelier. The main living room offers a fully stocked bar and a rare selection of Baccarat crystal glasses. Evenings can be spent reading in the library filled with rare antique books, playing chess or backgammon in the purposely decorated games area or playing billiard in the expansive family room in the mezzanine.

The kids bedroom

A casual lunch can be served in the Moroccan themed snug room or in the pool house equipped with a fully stocked bar, tables, and sitting corners.

Days can be spent by the pool, resting under a patio, laying on your very own private beach or being treated with a relaxing massage. Walk around the estate through paths created with pulverised corals and shells or learn how to cook creole recipes with a local Chef. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy a professionally equipped Technogym fitness room or with a personal yoga instructor.

The expansive private estate is filled with a lush tropica vegetation including rare trees and flowers to envy Kew Gardens in London. The manicured gardens offer plenty of space for relaxation including a kids’ playground and a turtle sanctuary. Tropical birds visit the garden daily expected to be fed. A handcrafted wooden door opens onto a private sandy beach surrounded by the typical tropical vegetation and soft white sand.

I left the villa with a sense of gratitude. True gems are rare to find.

The Top Ten Questions To Ask An Interior Designer Before Committing

What type of spaces do you design?

Most designers focus on either commercial or residential projects. Commercial projects vary in complexities with experts covering different industries. Residential projects can be challenging depending on size and technicalities. If you want to build a swimming pool or a home theatre, for example, do make sure you find a designer who understands the challenges of these installations.

What type of services do you offer?

In general, design services can be broken down into space planning, furniture and fixture selection, renovation and installation. Some designers only provide the design while you do your own purchasing, some provide full service where everything, including art pieces, are sourced for you. Some designers are willing to accept projects as small as one room, while others only take large projects.

What is the design process?

You do not want to attend a design meeting, then to walk away not knowing next steps or when you will hear from the designer again. Ask about design turnaround time, furniture lead time, how/where he or she sources their products, and how the design will be presented.

How much can I be involved in the design?

Know if you are a hands on or a hands off client. Then ask how the designer typically interacts with his or her clients during the design phase. Find a designer who can take charge if you only want to say yes or no. Work with a collaborative and communicative designer if you are one who is very invested in the process.

What is your design philosophy?

This might seem like a fluffy question but it is actually quite important. Some designers could focus more on aesthetics, and some more on functionality and efficiency. Some believe in bold, personality-stating design while some take a more minimalistic approach. Designers can be very versatile, but not all designers are comfortable creating spaces that are polar opposite of their design belief.

What if I change my mind or don’t like the design? How many changes can you make?

It is human nature to change our minds. Some design firms have a very rigid number of design changes they will make. Have a thorough conversation with the designer on the style and direction before design work begins to reduce the need for major revisions. Read the contract carefully when you receive it. The number of revisions and extra payment should be clearly stated in the contract.

How do you charge?

There are multiple ways a designer can charge for services – by square meter, by hours or a retainer. There are designers who charge a standalone design fee, and some bundle the fees with renovation and furnishing. Payment plans also differ from designer to designer. Make sure you ask upfront.

What is your turnaround time?

There will always be a time lag from concept to design, from revision to revision. Ask the designer what the turnaround time is so you don’t end up waiting endlessly.

How long will the whole interior design project take?

This varies on the size of your project, lead time of furniture chosen, the availability of tradesmen, and if any design and renovation work coincides with holidays. Things are typically much slower in the summer months and December.

What contractors do you work with?

If you are looking for a designer who also handles the renovation and installation, it is important to know that the crew he or she works with is experienced and the designer will ensure quality outcomes.

Rome, Lazio:
Rome, the Eternal City, has played a pivotal role in numerous iconic films. Its historic architecture, grandeur, and timeless beauty have made it a dream destination for filmmakers.

“Roman Holiday” is perhaps the most famous film shot in Rome, featuring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in a romantic comedy that takes viewers on a delightful journey through the city’s iconic sites.
